Persica Peach

General introduction

Peaches are fruits related to nectarines and apricots, but also with almonds; the differences between the shrubs that produce them consist of fruits. They come from Asia, and from there, they spread through the Mediterranean, all over the world.

The pulp (but also the peel) of peaches contains a lot of fiber and nutrients, constituting an effective source of energy. Moreover, fresh fruits contain vitamins, minerals, starch, pectins, antioxidants, and more organic acids. They also contain all of the essential components of group B, beta-carotene, tocopherol, and biotin.

The relatively small caloric content recommends peaches to be consumed by both diabetics and people who want to lose weight, as they successfully satisfy the need for “something sweet.”

**Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity according to USDA = This index measures the antioxidant capacity of the fruit. High values imply a strong antioxidant capacity, which, in turn suggests a low oxidation process, essential in protecting the body against the negative effects of free radicals. The FDA recommends a daily intake of 3,000-5,000 ORAC units for optimal health.
