Blackberries, allies of beauty
Blackberries can be the perfect dessert, they bring significant health and beauty benefits.
Berries are high on the superfood list thanks to their antioxidant properties – a cup of blackberry raw contains 30.2 milligrams of vitamin C. More often than not, however, blueberries get the most attention, and rightfully so.
However, studies say, blackberries could be even more valuable from a nutritional point of view: being rich in anthocyanins, they have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, which can fight diabetes and certain types of cancer. Then there are loads of fiber (14%), contributing to better digestion. They can also boost brain health, regulate cholesterol and help support oral health. And if that wasn't enough, blackberries can also be put to the service of your beauty, whether you eat them or use them to care for your skin (naturally, as an ingredient in masks or in care products). For extraordinary results, it would be ideal to act from both the inside and the outside.
If there's one thing that definitely makes a difference in skin care, it's undoubtedly antioxidants. They have proven effective in combating the signs of skin aging, helping it fight the effects of free radicals, reducing skin cell damage, improving its tone and overall appearance. And blackberries contain anti-aging ingredients rich in antioxidants, often used in face and body products, whether we're talking about concentrated serums, lipsticks or body lotions.
Vitamin C is the most popular nutrient with antioxidant properties, which is known to help the body produce collagen. If the intake of vitamin C is sufficient and regular, it can help to even out the skin tone and texture, brighten the complexion and protect the skin from the visible effects of pollution or other external factors.
Vitamin A is essential for our skin, and it is abundantly found in blackberries. Vitamin A can slow the signs of aging such as wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, uneven texture and weakened elasticity.
Another important skin vitamin is vitamin K, a nutrient found in blackberries that can help fade scars, stretch marks, sun spots, and other visible skin problems.
Not only the delicious fruit is beneficial for beauty; mulberry leaf extract is already a valuable ingredient in anti-aging formulas: it has properties to stimulate collagen and elastin, acting against the formation of wrinkles, its role being that of matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor.
How much and how should we consume blackberries to be able to take advantage of all the listed benefits? According to nutritionists, a cup or two of mixed or alternated berries daily may be enough to see a change soon. Then there are dozens of recipes in which you can add blackberries – smoothies, tarts or even salads, to enjoy with a glass of wine.
And if it's still about this "indulgence", blackberries can make an exceptional wine, and not just from the point of view of its refined taste: a study published in the "Journal of Food Science" showed that blackberry wines contain high levels of resveratrol, a plant compound that acts as a powerful antioxidant, while favoring the body's natural detoxification, effects that can be seen both internally and externally, on our skin.
