A producer from Gorj, who grows raspberries and blackberries on 5 hectares, has the ambition of a jam factory

Ionel Burtea, a 21-year-old young man, a student in his last year at the Academy of Economic Sciences in Bucharest, convinced his parents three years ago to invest in a raspberry and blackberry plantation, which covers an area of 5 hectares in the town of Ţicleni, Gorj county. From the second year of fruiting, with a harvest of two tons of blackberries and 500 kilograms of raspberries, the Burtea family had sales of over 5,000 euros.

"The investment is around 20,000 euros per hectare if you don't have the land, of which 3,000-4,000 euros represents the irrigation system. The more you expand, the cheaper it is, because you don't have to build another well. We haven't recovered the investment yet, in the fourth year of fruiting we estimate that we will reach a profit. This year we expect productions of 15 tons/hectare at raspberries and 20 tons/hectare for blackberries because the plantation will reach maturity", Ionel Burtea told ZF.

Last year, the producer of forest fruits from Gorj county sold its productions in Carrefour Târgu-Jiu, to confectioneries and directly to consumers at a price of 10-15 lei per kilogram, both raspberries and blackberries, depending on the quantity sold. The Burtea family has a manufacturer's certificate issued by the local authorities in Ţicleni, but they are going to establish a company for which they have reserved the name Abund Berry.
